What books are the best at inciting the imagination to its highest levels of sensation?

Mohsin K asked:

I have fantasy novels in particular on my mind when i ask this question (though its not necessary). From the modern Diana Wynne Jones (who wrote “Howl’s Moving Castle”) to the old Shakespeare, from the testosterone-fueled battlefields of Fight Club (by Chuck Palahnuik) and Illiad, to even the heart-wrenching romance novels (which i am too ignorant of to even mention) - what is out there that best takes the human imagination to its peak plane, to its highest sensations of intoxication and euphoria? What can give me this zen, this ascending to a higher plane? Perhaps a book that combines many aspects - mystery, action, romance, etc. In my own opinion, a book like this is firstly founded on a sublime plot or vision of the writer and only secondarily strengthened and vitalized by a talented writer. Thus it is not necessarily a “literary” novel, yet i would guess the mind that conjures such great plots would likely be that of a great writer and thus more likely in the literary novel field.

What can you do when you want to do many things in life but seems that you have inadequate time?

engelbart asked:

What if you like to join many clubs in school and still have honors. What if you like to dance, debate, take sports, join the journalism club, be a doctor, be a writer, but you can’t concentrate because you often procrastinate and you study in a very difficult school? What can you do to be motivated?

Writer’s clubs?

Mr. M asked:

You know how they have book clubs, where people get together and discuss books? Are there any writer’s clubs that people join for people who enjoy writing? Especially in NYC?

Would “The Breakfast Club” be any good as a movie without the pot? Explain?

I’m Hare! asked:

Up until they pull the marijuana out and get stoned none of the characters have anything to say to one another, but all of a sudden they light up and poof magically they are talking themselves silly. Do you think the writers stared at one another across their typewriters and said “How to we get these kids to talk?___I know let’s get them all baked and have them spill their guts.____Brilliant!” What do you think.

And yes the movie is on at this moment.

I have a good way to end the writers strike. Just hire new writers, oh my god, what a concept. Are you?

T-Berger34 asked:

telling me that the striking writers are the only people in the world who can write good sit-coms, dramas, late night banter, jokes, movies, etc? What about the countless number of writers who want to make it in show biz but have been kept out by the “little club, boys network” that the Writers Guild Union has. Hire replacements. There are tons of great writers coming out of Ivy League schools, etc, every year. I’m sure there are enough around to fill the jobs. What do you think about that?
A scab is a term used as a picket line crosser. Well, I don’t even believe in unions, so, therefore, that term doesn’t apply to what i’m talking about.
Yes I would be ok with that if it was in the initial contract. Remember, these writers are already making A LOT of money, 100’s of thousands of dollars per year. If a movie company decides to buy a script from a struggling writer for $200,000, and in the contract it says that the writer gets no residuals/royalties from it, but then the movie makes 200 million, hey, that might not look good to the outsiders (us), but at the time the 200 grand looked pretty good to the struggling writer who was barely paying his/her bills.

The movies “the Number 23″ and “Fight Club”?

Old School Nintendo asked:

Do you think the writers of the Number 23 tried to immitate the tone of Fight Club?

Jim Carrey’s character seemed a lot like Edward Norton’s in Fight Club. They both play the average guy whos life sucks and then some event causes them to go crazy.

Did anyone notice the similarity, or was it just me?
By the way, what did you think of the Number 23? I only got to watch half of it.

What do you think of my short story?

Idiot kid (DIY ethic) asked:

I’ve posted this here before, but I would really like some fresh opinions. I recently read it in my writer’s club at school, and somebody told me that I should turn in into a novella. What do you think; should I keep going with it?

Thanks!

How do I create a Yahoo! Group with password only access?

Nabo’s Woman asked:

I want to start a Yahoo! Group writer’s club with password only access, so that we can display our writing for each other to critique, without the whole world reading it.

BTW, I know how to start the group, I just need to know where to find info to make it password only. I know this is possible because I once belonged to one. LINKS PLEASE.
