Do you have to permission to do a play at a school?

I’m Amber! asked:

I’m a student at college and I just found out that anyone can start a group or a club and my friends and I wanted to try to put on a production of the musical West Side Story. But someone told me yu have to have permission from the writers and producers of the original play but what is the big deal if a little college in a little town puts on a play that no one out side of this town will see? Is it true and who do you need permission from?

A career in law or in writing?

Nooneyouknow asked:

I’m really good at writing–at least that is what all my teachers and fellow students always told me. I was even on the newspaper staff, but found the writing too recipe like. Anyway, right now I am considering writing as in fiction or studying to be a lawyer. Would the writing I would do in law be recipe like as well? I like helping people and reasearching as in for writing reasearch papers and reading so writing is not my ONLY thing. I like being around people and am also comfortable being alone. I’ve had time to work on my writing as an fiction writer, but I have yet to finish anything. The law interests me and I have always been the one to stand up for things and people rights etc. My journalism teacher pegged me for advanced classes while I was in his class and after I wrote a letter to the editor dealing with a club not being fair to all students. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all!

I really really want to go to USC. What are my chances?

nicole asked:

I am a very ambitious student, and very involved in my school, such as leadership, clubs, community and sports. I am also an avid writer and take AP classes. ( I passed my history with a three) My g.p.a. isn’t perfect; a 3.7 weighted, and I will have at least a 1800 on my SAT’s (hopefully) lol. I want to major in film as a script writer. So, is this good enough? What else should I be doing to increase my chances?

Has anyone attended the MFA creating writing program at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop?

getshorty75 asked:

Has anyone matriculated from the M.F.A. program creative writing program at U. of IA? I have some questions. I’ve been told that the atmosphere is highly political, the students rich, spoiled, cliquish, hostile. I’ve been told that screaming matches break out during class, students talk shit about other students (not so much the quality of their work as perceived character flaws). I’ve been told that students who are promising writers go to Iowa and are so thoroughly disillusioned by the politics, cliques, and Social Darwinism inherent in the community, that they never write another word. Is any of this true? The picture I have is of a bunch of country club kids and trust-funded hipsters who want to be the next Anne Rice or Michael Cunningham and not have to actually work for a living.

What else would help me get in to a great college?

Cinnamon asked:

I just finished my sophomore year of high school. I have taken one AP class and test (AP European History) but have not received the test scores back. I don’t play sports, but I am planning to volunteer at the library. I have a non-weighted GPA of 3.83 (weighted of 4.0). I took the PSAT both as a freshman and a sophomore. I am in Key Club and on the Principal’s Advisory Board. I am a fairly strong writer. I was chosen to be the senior editor of my Yearbook for the next two years. What else can I or should I do to make myself a worthy contestant for prestigious colleges and universities? That is, besides from earning good grades in rigorous courses and , obviously, scroing high on the ACT and/or SAT.
